FURNISHING FLORIDA VILLAS

When our clients have started the process of buying their Florida villa, we point out that there are important choices and decisions to make in respect of furnishings.

Because if you want to rent out your home to cover some or all of the costs, the standard and contents of the furnishings and equipment are likely to have a big impact on the money that you earn.  It doesn’t matter if you have bought a 2 bed/2 bath condo or a 6 bedroom pool home, or if it’s new or re-sale – you need to make sure that it’s furnished to as high a standard as you can afford to make it stand out from the crowd.

Here are some of the options that are available when  you are furnishing a new home:

• Complete Furniture Packages

In Florida, there are a number of companies that offer complete furniture packages for vacation homes. A designer from the company will help you to choose furniture either in their showroom or from catalogues. They will also talk to you about any definite ideas you may have. Once the basics have been decided and your new home has been completed they will supply and install the complete package which includes bed linens, towels, all kitchen and bathroom items, pictures, plants and ornaments.

• Furniture vouchers

New home builders sometimes offer a furniture voucher which can be redeemed at a designated furniture package company. Often this option is a little more limiting in choice as they tend to have set packages to choose from. However, you can usually upgrade items by paying the extra cost.

• Bought Fully Furnished

At the height of the building boom about ten years ago, some builders offered their new homes complete with furniture, covering all the essentials needed in a holiday home. For some people this was a great option especially if they didn’t have time to spare to pick out their furniture package – but they generally get little or no choice in style, fabric etc.  This practice has largely disappeared now but we have seen one or two instances re-emerge recently.
